Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates, 4 Edition
Publisher: Delmar Learning | 2010 | 928 Pages | ASIN: B003XT5GA4 | English | PDF | 102,2 MB

Product Description

This is the must-have book for designers who want to expand their skills and improve the quality of their designs. Learning CSS technology and continually improving one’s design and developer skills is essential for every Web designer in today’s marketplace. The goal of Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates is to educate beginning-to-intermediate Web designers on the various issues involved with Web design through general discussion, case studies, and specific tips and techniques. Using easy-to-understand language and concepts, the book teaches designers and developers how to create professional-quality CSS-based designs. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is explored, giving the reader a strong, basic understanding of how to get sites to rank better in search engines. Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) also is explained, helping the designer create a more efficient site for the users who are already visiting. You’ll get the benefit of the author’s experience. With more than 15 years of experience as a Web designer for Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and small businesses alike, Eccher has learned numerous tips and techniques of the trade and discloses them here, saving you time and aggravation by alerting you to potential pitfalls.

Clint Eccher has designed professional Web sites for seven years and now makes some of his designs available as templates through his own site (A5design.com) and with his new book, Professional Web Design. You get 50 templates (each of which features home and second-level pages) and careful instructions on how to adapt them for your own use. Along the way, Eccher offers sound advice on good Web design practices; a little bit about HTML, cascading style sheets, and javascript; a look at JPEGs and GIFs; and some insight into “comping” (sketching) a site design for the client’s approval. For the most part, however, this book addresses just those aspects of Web design that readers will need to know in order to successfully utilize the templates. These are designed as “mortised” sites; that is, they are built with nested tables and sliced GIF/JPEG combinations, the kind of design made easy with the advent of Adobe’s ImageReady and Macromedia’s Fireworks. Although this is not a how-to about using those applications or about creating such sites from scratch, Eccher does help readers learn how to debug and otherwise adjust the source code in order to successfully implement the designs. In addition to trial versions of the major applications, the CD-ROM also contains the javascript Cookbook and HTML/CSS Developer’s Resource Guide, which provide lots of cut-and-paste source code for all kinds of features (games, sounds, pop-up messages) that can be added to a Web page.

One caveat: despite the templates, this book is too detailed for beginners. For those with some experience, and especially for developers who lack design skills and like the A5design style, this book amounts to an intensive Clint Eccher brain-picking seminar. He offers a few tricks that can be applied to any design (like his tips on how to drastically reduce file sizes) and some good general advice (for example, “Do not get attached to the work” because a client may just decide against it). –Angelynn Grant

Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation 4.0 Cookbook for Developing SOA Applications

Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation 4.0 Cookbook for Developing SOA Applications

Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation 4.0 Cookbook for Developing SOA Applications
Publisher: Packt Publishing | 2010 | ISBN-10: 1849680760 | PDF | 316 pages | English | 15,6 Mb

Book Description
The Windows Communication Foundation 4.0 (WCF 4.0) is a .NET-based application programming interface for building and running connected systems. It enables secure and reliable communication among systems within an organization or across the Internet. This book deals with the difficult issues faced by a .NET developer while working with WCF.

WCF 4.0 is a communications infrastructure that unifies a broad array of distributed systems’ capabilities in a composable, extensible architecture that supports multiple transports, messaging patterns, encodings, network topologies, and hosting models. This book is a collection of focused real-world recipes and covers basic recipes on topics such as working with contracts to more advanced topics such as extending WCF runtime. By the end of this book you will have valuable information that helps transform the potentially unproductive habits of .Net developers who work with WCF.

This book will take you through many concepts starting with complete support for contract-related design for WCF service development. You will learn to use WCF’s built-in feature for building various service endpoints. Service hosting and configuration are important areas for building WCF services, especially at the service deployment stage, and are detailed in this book. You will find it easy to work with WCF client proxy generation and metadata publishing and discovery when you go through recipes such as customizing auto-generated service proxies.

The author then discusses the exchange of data in WCF service operation features, related to WCF data serialization. You will discover some useful tips for security in WCF service development and built-in features for developing concurrency control for your services built upon it.

One big plus is that you will learn to extend the existing WCF framework to achieve advanced functionality. You will find a dedicated chapter for RESTful and AJAX-enabled service development. Moving on, you will find several useful WCF service interoperability cases, which are important for a distributed service development platform. Towards the end of this book you will find some handy and useful diagnostic methods for troubleshooting.

Extend and secure the WCF framework and develop robust SOA applications with ease.

What you will learn from this book:

    * Share a physical address between multiple endpoints
    * Custom binding without a Timestamp header
    * Bind a WPF element with data from WCF service
    * Invoke a WCF service without blocking the front UI
    * Build a WCF service with ad hoc security mode
    * Intercept WCF operation messages with MessageInspector
    * Extend WCF security with custom AuthorizationManager
    * Build REST-style services with WCF
    * Call WCF services from AJAX script clients

Approach
The recipes in this book are easy to understand and follow as the author discusses real-world scenarios. The range of topics covered in this book will bring out the forward-thinking WCF developer in you. It is not a comprehensive reference to the whole of WCF, but a practical guide that boosts proficiency when working with the various features of WCF. The examples are supported by relevant background information for ease of understanding.

Who this book is written for
If you work with Windows Communication Foundation 4.0 and you want to be efficient when working with WCF features such as interoperability, proxy generation, and security, you will find this book very useful. With this book you will be able to find quick and handy solutions for various kinds of service development scenarios using Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation 4.0. To follow the recipes you will need to be comfortable with .NET Framework, C# programming, and the basics of SOA and how to develop them.

Fundamentals of Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control
McGraw-Hill (3-2005) | PDF | 322 pages | 0071457356 | 2.6Mb
Fundamentals of Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control /by William Dunn. Instrumentation technicians work on pneumatics, electronic instruments, digital logic devices and computer-based process controls.
Because so much of their work involves computerized devices, they need an extensive knowledge of electronics, and most have degrees in electronics technology. Most textbooks in this area are written for four year institutions and lack the practical flavor that is needed in technical schools or community colleges. Designed as a text for use in community colleges or vocational schools, this up to date text is unsurpassed in its treatment of such subjects as: instruments and parameters, electrical components(both analog and digital) various types of actuators and regulators, plumbing and instrumentation diagrams and Operation of process controllers.
